What is Smart-Release Phosphate?

Smart-release P is a next-generation phosphate fertilizer that delivers nutrients on demand — when and where the plant needs them.

Unlike conventional phosphates (DAP, MAP), SmartP is insoluble in water but fully bioavailable, releasing phosphorus only when activated by root-secreted organic acids.

Features:
        Contains calcium and phosphate and nitrogen
Will not be lost by runoff or leaching
Compatible with urea – enabling a unique formulation of N-P-Ca in one bag.
Shown to increase yields by 5-10% at 50% less dosage compared to DAP

How Smart-Release Phosphate differs from other phosphates

  1. Smart-Release P vs Soluble Phosphates (DAP, MAP, TSP)

    • SmartP is not water soluble, so it doesn’t leach or runoff—eliminating eutrophication risks.

    • It resists fixation in the soil.

  2. Smart-Release P vs. Organic Acid-Treated Soluble Fertilizers (itaconic acid treatment)

    • Phosphates treated with organic acid chelators are still fully water-soluble, making them vulnerable to leaching.

    • SmartP’s root-activated release ensures nutrients are only released when and where the plant needs them, enhancing environmental safety.

  3. Smart-Release P vs. Naturally Insoluble Fertilizers (NIF e.g., Struvite, Rock Phosphate)

    • NIFs depend on soil pH and dissolve slowly, making them unreliable in many soils.

    • NIFs not engineered for bioavailability. They are simple precipitated insoluble phosphates 

    • SmartP is not pH dependent—its release mechanism is biologically triggered by root-secreted chelates, ensuring consistent performance across soil types.

Smart-Release Phosphate is compatible with all micronutrients.
Micronutrients will not get "fixed" by phosphate.
It can be blended with any micronutrient (zinc, boron, manganese, molybdenum, copper).  Best results if blended with our Smart-Release micronutrients                        

Potato yield increases significantly by 18.5% (3528 kg/ha) using 30 kg/ha P2O5 as smart-release P compared to SSP @ 80 kg/ha P2O5

Rice yield increases by 11.8% with smart-release P at 50% reduced dosage compared to DAP

Corn yields incresed by 10 bu/a with SmartP at 60 lb/a P2O5 compared to MAP at 100 lb/a P2O5 in trials carried out at Champaign, IL

Cantaloupe yields increased by 12.5%  with SmartP at 50 lb/a P2O5 compared to growers standard (phosphoric and superphosphoric acid at 75 lb/a P2O5) in trials carried out at Hyder, AZ.
